Welcome to Marysvale

THE GREATEST MAN I EVER KNEW
HAS PASSED FROM THIS EARTH.

Ronald Lee Bushman, 70, loving husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated friend passed away in his sleep, due to natural causes, May 5, 2009. Ron was born May 30, 1938 in Fairview, Utah. Ron was married to Glenda Heaps, September 27, 1958. Their union was blessed with four children.

Ron was a talented man of many accomplishments and interests. Ron was dedicated to his family, his community and his country. Ron proudly served in the US Army in Korea, worked as an electronics technician on early missile systems at Sperry Corporation, served on the Utah Highway Patrol, owned the Marysvale store and service station for twenty years, ran an irrigation, excavation and construction company, sold real estate, opened Richfield's first Chinese restaurant and distributed movie video tapes throughout Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Ron built and grew Lizzie and Charlie’s Rug Shop into a well known destination in Marysvale and received the Utah Governor’s Award for the Arts in recognition of his work.

Ron believed strongly in the potential of, and was instrumental in the development of the Paiute Trail System and started Lizzie and Charlie’s RV Park to serve the many arriving trail riders, as well as serving as chairman of the Paiute ATV Trail Committee. Ron was the chairman of the Heritage Highway Alliance and recipient of the Utah Governor’s Award of Humanities for his efforts.

Ron started the popular Fish Rodeo at the Marysvale Pioneer Day celebration. Ron served as Marysvale Town Mayor, Marysvale Democratic Precinct Chairman, Piute County Democratic Chairman and delegate for many years. Ron started the Marysvale Youth Council and was given the Utah Governor’s Award. Ron was a talented artist, wood carver and wood worker. There was no job too large to tackle and no job too small for his attention.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Glenda; sister Nelda; children, Gary (Belva), Shannon, Shelly (John) and Darin (Keri); ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; Parley and Carol Roundy, Leland and Channon Roundy, Vicky and Stan Mortensen, John and Anja Roundy, Julie Thompson and many, many friends, all who will miss him greatly.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents Lamar and Ester Christina Christensen Bushman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 12:00 pm in Marysvale LDS Chapel. Friends may call Friday, May 8, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield and again on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:30am in Marysvale at the ward chapel.. Burial will be in the Marysvale Cemetery with military rites by the V. F. W. Piute Post #7561.

Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paiute ATV Trail Committee, Ron Bushman Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 864, Richfield, UT 84701. A memorial will be built some where on the Paiute ATV Trail System in his honor and for all his hard work and dedication to these trails.

Home of South-Central Utah's 900+ mile Paiute ATV Trail System, a trail system with no beginning and no end, making it the largest in the nation! It passes through multiple towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rated the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the top 10 trail systems in the country. It has been rated as one of the top 5 trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trial to be the TOP US trail system.  The main #01 loop trail is 238 miles long, with over 800+ miles of marked side trails and 1900+ miles of additional accessible side forest roads and trails, so we suggest that you do it in segments.

The Paiute ATV Trail caters to relaxing and family-type riding. Riders along the trails enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of a deeply dense forest, as well as popular activities such as fishing or camping near the path. It is truly impossible to put in writing how people must feel as they sit on a ridge at 11,000 feet looking a hundred miles into the distance, or maneuver their machine through a dense forest on a four-foot-wide trail. The surge of joy and wonder when people see a free-roaming herd of deer or elk is hard to describe. While taking a break on a beautiful canyon trail, one would have to think, "It would be impossible to describe this place - you have to be here!"

Best estimates are that just the #01 loop would take 25 hours to ride just this section, without much time for pictures or anything else. With the many side trips and access roads into towns around the trail system the number of miles you can travel adds up to be considerably more than 2800+ miles of trails and routes. Unless your tush is made of some of the hard minerals mined from our surrounding mountains, you can travel an average of 60-70 miles a day comfortably on an ATV.
For more detailed information on the Paiute ATV Trail we have published the Paiute ATV Trail Guide Book with detailed descriptions about it and it's many sections. You can order it here on our web site.
